do-Bangla production ‘Sankhachil’ named for Best Bengali Film

Celebrated Indian filmmaker Gautam Ghosh film ‘Sankhachil’, starring popular Bangladeshi actress Kusum Sikder and prominent Indian film actor Prosenjit, has been named Best Bengali Film for the 63rd edition of Indian National Film Awards. The announcement was made yesterday.

The film has been produced by Bangladesh’s Impress Tele Films and Ashirbad Cholochitro. The story of the film revolves around the border tragedy about a couple and their ailing daughter. The film has been produced based on the different stories of border incident.

Different types of emotion, family crisis, affection and frustration have been portrayed in the film. The film also shows that how a family suffers when the borderline runs through their house.

The film was shot in Taki-international border between India and Bangladesh. In the film, Prosenjit and Kusum Sikder are playing the lead roles. The other most important casts of the film include Bangladeshi actors Mamunur Rashid, Rosy Siddiqui, Prabir Mitra and Anum Rahman Khan.

Director Goutam Ghosh explains the name of the film “In the film, we will see that the child artiste Rupsa wants to fly, wants to be free. In fact, every character of the film who suffers from border crisis, wants to be free. Here the name ‘Sankhachil’ has been used as a symbol.”

On the other hand, Indian epic historical fiction film ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ was nominated as ‘Best Film’ and Amitabh Bachchan as ‘Best Actor’ for the film ‘Piku’.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday congratulated Bengali filmmaker Gautam Ghose for winning National Film Awards.

She wrote in a tweet, “Happy that Shankhachil, a joint production of West Bengal & Bangladesh, won the Best Bengali Film. Congratulations Gautam Ghose #NationalAwards”.

To note, ‘Sankhachil’ will be released in Bangladesh and West Bengal simultaneously during the upcoming Pahela Baishakh on April 14.
