An apprentice lawyer was beaten and hacked to death by miscreants at Uttar Chayabithi area of sadar upazila Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque Biplob, 42, a lawyer of Gazipur court and son of one Khandaker Shamsuddin, hailed from the area.

Deceased’s brother Advocate Khandaker Aminul Haque Tutul, also former assistant attorney general of Supreme Court, alleged that local goons Robin and Rabbi attacked Enamul Haque Biplob and chopped him indiscriminately in front of his house in the area when he reached here around 5:30pm.

At a stage, they hit Biplob on his head with an iron rod and left the scene, he added.

Locals rushed him to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital. But doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

However, Biplob was taken to Uttara Adhunik Medical College and Hospital in city where on duty physician declared him dead around 6:30pm, Khandaker Aminul Haque added.

Later, relatives took him to Kurmitola Government Hospital to be sure. Doctors of the hospital also declared him dead.

Joydevpur Thana sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Hamid said Biplob might be killed over old enmity.

On the other hand, deceased’s mother Rehana Akhter alleged that two sons — Rabbi and Robin — of Gazipur Judge Court serestadar Masudur Rahman killed her son.
